Protecting Against Unauthorised Drones
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, are increasingly used for commercial, recreational and operational purposes. While they provide many benefits, unauthorised drone activity can create security risks for military facilities, airports, critical infrastructure and other sensitive locations.
Sabre One provides Counter-UAS (C-UAS) solutions to help clients detect, identify, track and respond to potential drone threats. Working with established technology partners, we can develop solutions suited to the location, the operating environment and the risks faced by the client.
The first stage is understanding the requirement. A remote military facility may face different threats from an international airport, coastal installation or major public event. We consider the surrounding environment, site boundaries, existing security arrangements and the types of drone activity that may be encountered.
Detection technology can include radar, radio-frequency sensors, electro-optical cameras and thermal imaging. Depending on the equipment selected, these systems can provide information about the presence, position and movement of a drone, giving security personnel time to assess the situation.
Where appropriate, information from different sensors can be brought together into a single operating picture. This allows security teams to distinguish between authorised and potentially unauthorised activity and determine whether further action is necessary.
Response options depend on the technology available, the operating environment and the legal powers of the organisation. Where authorised, these may include electronic mitigation or other approved counter-drone measures. Not every response method is suitable or legally permitted in every location.
Sabre One can also provide specialist training to help personnel understand the equipment, interpret alerts and follow established response procedures. Where a client already has security systems in place, we can assess opportunities to integrate C-UAS technology into those arrangements.
